Vehicle transfer costs
What the buyer pays to transfer a used car registered in Slovenia to their name and register it.
Good to know
- A change of ownership must be reported within 15 days, at an administrative unit or a registration office. Bring the registration document, the sales contract or invoice and your ID.
- The administrative fee for issuing a registration document is €13.60 under the Administrative Fees Act. The annual road-use charge is calculated from the daily rates in the regulation; for 12 months it is €62 to €565, and €43.40 or €62 for an electric car.
- When the seller deregisters the car, they get back the unused part of the annual charge, and the buyer pays it again for their own registration period.
- The price of a pair of standard plates and the service fee are from the TSC LABA price list (February 2026), and the technical inspection price for a car (€38.28) is as reported by Avto magazin (September 2026). Some registration offices also charge separately for the registration document form.
- No DMV (motor vehicle tax) is due on a car that is already registered in Slovenia. This is an estimate.
